Thomas M. Carey of Rockland, age 67, died April 13, 2023 of lung cancer at the Veterans Administration Hospice Center in Brockton.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Francis and Hazel Carey, and his sisters Barbara McClintock and Mary Bromwell. He is survived by his brother Raymond Carey (Maureen) and sisters Elizabeth Rutledge (Norman) and Linda Hotz. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, and good friends Robin Tarr, Carol Bresnahan and Bob Thornley.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Tom joined the service after graduating from Randolph High School. He served aboard the U.S. S. Belknap, a guided missile cruiser, and survived a collision with the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy off Italy in 1975.
Tom attended 120 Grateful Dead concerts during his younger years, and enjoyed spending time with friends at the Knights of Columbus in Weymouth. He loved his job as an electrician and the people he worked with for over 25 years at Protectowire® FireSystems in Hanover; he had planned to retire in April.
Tom will be remembered by his family and friends for the kind, gentle man he was, for the fabulous greeting cards he always managed to find, and the great toys he brought for the younger kids on Christmas.
Visitation will be at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home at 134 Pleasant Street in Weymouth, April 27, 4-6 p.m., followed by a gathering at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Weymouth. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on May 2 at 11:30am.
