Sheila (Hagerty) Roach, age 90, of Weymouth passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2024. Sheila was born, raised, and educated in Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth High in 1951. She was among a few female scholarship recipients to Northeastern University where she received a bachelors degree in chemical engineering in 1956. At Natick Laboratories, she created a couple of patents and met Joseph Roach. They were married in 1961, moved to Seattle, WA and started a family. They moved to Roslindale shortly thereafter and continued their family. In 1972, they moved to Braintree and raised their family.
Sheila made herself very visible in Braintree. She was very active in politics being a town meeting member, Park Commissioner, Water-Sewer Commissioner and was a member of the democratic state commission for many years. She could be seen campaigning all around town. She also played softball and coached girls softball in East Braintree for over 20 years. In addition, she went door-to-door doing the Census. She was a member of the Gardners Guild for many years and could be seen planting flowers all over town, in addition to her own yard. She took night classes at Braintree High School which included quilt making, rug braiding, basket weaving and jewelry making.Sheila also enjoyed crocheting, as evidenced by her many knit hats, golf, bowling, bird watching. She was an avid reader and a Red Sox fanatic.
Sheila was the daughter of Myrtle (Stephenson) and Thomas Hagerty. She is survived by her children, David Dreher of Worcester, MA; Brian Roach and his wife Mellissa of Rockland, MA; Joseph Roach of Framingham, MA; Moira Roach of Sandwich, MA; Shivaun Pacitto and her husband Gary of Blackstone, MA. She is predeceased by her son, Patrick Roach. Sheila is also survived by her brother Dwane Hagerty and his wife Margaret. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eric Bierlich and his wife Julie of Sandwich, MA; Alex Dreher of Southold, NY; Jonathan Dreher of wells, ME; Dominique Riley and her husband Jack of Rutland, MA; Brian Roach and his wife Samantha of Plympton, MA; Shivon Roach of Abington, MA; Anthony Pacitto of Bellingham, MA; Christabel Roach of Whitman, MA; Jack and Nicholas Pacitto of Blackstone, MA. And her great-grandchildren Madison, Gavin, Alistair, Arianna, Arthas, Forest and Olive Rose.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Sheila on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home Thursday morning at 9am for a celebration of life prior to the funeral service that will be held at All Souls Church in Braintree located at 196 Elm St. Braintree, MA at 10am. Cremation will follow.
