Robie Arthur Nickerson Jr., age 94, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024. Robie was born in Boston, raised in Wollaston and graduated from North Quincy High School in 1947. He attended Northeastern University in Boston, earning his Bachelor's Degree in 1958 and then his Master's in 1962. After college, Robie embarked on an extensive career in finance. He started as a Manager of Corporate Finance for Gillette, then went on to Sheraton Corporation, where he was the VP and Deputy Comptroller, and finally was the Chief Financial Officer for many years at the Massachusetts Medical Society until he retired in 2001. After retirement, he volunteered with the South Shore Hospital Foundation and from there enjoyed working with the chaplain to visit patients. In 1985, he was instrumental in the second building of Union Towers in Weymouth. He enjoyed donating his time as a director of the former South Shore Cooperative Bank; and was an active member of The First Church of Weymouth.
Robie loved his old Jaguars, but his greatest passion was sailing. He built a Hustler sailboat with his father and brother when young and then moved on to sailing around Boston Harbor in larger sailboats. He was a member of the Braintree Yacht Club at the time of his passing. Robie and Paulie loved to travel, always planning yearly trips either abroad or up and down the east coast. Family genealogy was one of the many projects he enjoyed in his free time. Robie was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
Robie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pauline Nickerson (Allaby), of Weymouth. He is also survived by his stepson, Gary Beebower and his wife Toni, of Oceanside, CA, and his daughter, Sherri Conte and her husband, Michael, of Richlands, NC.
