Rita M Foster, 84, of Weymouth, passed away on February 21, 2023. Rita was born and raised in South Boston and graduated from Nazareth Catholic High School in 1956. After high school, Rita joined the U.S. Army and then decided to be a stay at home mom for her three children's early years.  In the late 70's, Rita began a successful career working as a civilian for the U.S. Navy in contract administration, from which she retired in late 90's. In addition to her civilian career with the U.S. Navy, Rita reenlisted in the military as a yeoman for the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring with the rank of Yeoman First Class (YN1).

Rita was incredibly active throughout her life, she was an avid walker, especially with her beloved dog, Ruby. She enjoyed swimming and going to the gym regularly.  She also enjoyed traveling, going to the movies and attending performances at the theaters around the state.

Rita is survived by her loving children, Stephanie Foster and her partner James Dapkas of Weymouth, David Foster of Manchester, NH, Michael Foster and his wife Kristine Foster of Medina Ohio. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Chase, Henry, and Evan. Rita was also loved by her sister Margaret Roberts, her niece Tammy Cruickshank and her husband Peter Cruickshank , and predeceased by her siblings, Anna Downing and Robert Shaughnessy.

Rita will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery located in Bourne Ma. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Cancer Association and the Boston MSPCA using the links provided on this page.
