Richard R. Godin, age 76, a lifelong resident of Weymouth, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Rich graduated Weymouth High School in 1964. He married his wife, Claire, in 1971 and they were married for 51 years.
Rich owned and operated Godin Brothers Tire Center with his brother which quickly became the epicenter of Jackson Square. Rich had so much fun for so many years and could always be seen having his lunch break at the Venetian Restaurant, enjoying his time there, and countless laughs with fellow locals. Rich was also a real estate agent for over 10 years. Among all of his jobs, being acting superintendent of Fairmount Cemetery for countless years was his favorite.
He was raised on Pleasant Street in Weymouth by the late Anna and Henry Godin where he enjoyed skating on Elias Pond behind the family home. Rich was the definition of a "local", always having his finger on the pulse of Weymouth. If Rich knew you, you were connected to the entire town in such an intimate way. His energy that he brought to our community was truly profound to say the least.
Rich is survived by his beloved wife Claire Godin (Gunville) of Weymouth, his sons Matthew Godin and his wife Heather of Hanover, Mark Godin of Weymouth, and Timothy Godin and his wife Sally of Norwell, his adoring grandchildren Maggie, Jimmy, Luke, Dean, and Jack, and his brother Henry Godin and his wife Jean of Barnstable.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Rich on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 11am for a Celebration of Life prior to the funeral mass which will take place at St. Albert the Great Parish, Weymouth at Noon. Cremation will follow.
