Paul Gregory Babcock passed away peacefully on Friday morning, February 23, 2024 at the Dr. Ruth McLain
Hospice Home in Braintree. Paul was born Boston, MA on September 2, 1942. He was the son of the late
Milton Babcock and the late Ann Babcock. Paul grew up in Milton and Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth
High School in 1960. Paul attended Boston University and graduated from Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy,
MA, in 1965 with a BA degree. Paul later attended Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN,
graduating in 1983 with an M.E.D. degree.
Paul spent much of his life working in the field of education. He taught Industrial Arts at Central Junior High
School in Weymouth, served as a professor of aviation at Bridgewater State University, worked as Director of
Development at South Shore Vocational Technical school in Hanover, and also worked for the Massachusetts
Department of Education for Boston/Chelsea districts.
Paul was also actively involved in the field of aviation for many years. He held a private pilot license, with
flight instructor rating, an Airframe & Power Plant Mechanic certificate and an Airline Transport License. Paul
was also certified as an official Aviation Education Counselor by the FAA and taught computer systems to FAA
inspectors. Paul himself was a certified aircraft inspector and held several supplemental certificates for various
types of airplane modification. He enjoyed rebuilding airplanes, both for himself and for others. He was a
nationally known specialist on Piper Cub airplanes and was a regular lecturer at national aviation conventions
and gatherings.
Paul and his wife, Sylvia, loved to travel. If they were not flying to various places around the country, they were
taking a cruise to other parts of the world.
Paul was an active churchman all his life. He attended First Baptist Church of Weymouth, Community Baptist
Church in Weymouth, and most recently, was an active member of the South Weymouth Church of the
Nazarene. Paul loved Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was always ready and willing to share is faith with
others.
Paul leaves his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Manna Babcock, his brother Milton Babcock (Mary) of E. Bridgewater,
a sister Claire Tinory (Richard) of Cohasset as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was pre-deceased by
his sister, Carole Ayer.
Family and friends are invited to participate in a Celebration of Life for Paul on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11am at the South
Weymouth Church of the Nazarene located on 385 Ralph Talbot Street, Weymouth, MA 02190. Refreshments will be served
at the church following the service.
