Patrick J. Flaherty, age 83, of South Weymouth passed away at home after a short battle with cancer. Patrick was raised and educated in S. Boston. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 25, which started his driving career with Akers Motor Lines followed by M&M Transportation. Which lead him to become an Owner Operator in 1976. Patrick owned five eighteen wheelers and drove over 5 million miles coast to coast. Where he was known as Irish Spring in the trucking community. He was featured several times in Truckers Magazine along with being published in a Truckers Book. Featuring his Irish Spring Truck on the roads of down town Boston which he called his home town. He loved driving and seeing the United States especially when his wife Patricia joined him a couple of weeks each year. Patricia stated they saw 48 out of the 50 states, never got to Alaska or Hawaii."
Patrick met Patricia in 1955 at Sholes Riverview Skating Rink in Neponset, where they shared the love of skating for several years. They were married July 1961. They lived in Boston for one year before they settled in South Weymouth in the fall of 1962. That is where Patrick and Patricia raised their family with countless fond memories
After retiring Patrick enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. May it be having family dinner with a movie, attending school or sporting events and several vacations including a memorable Hockey Tournament in Lake Placid, NY.
Patrick is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Patricia Flaherty (Jakubajtys) of South Weymouth, his children Gayle Flaherty-McAndrews and her husband Robert of Middleton, Patrick Flaherty Jr. of South Weymouth, and Lynne Flaherty of Whitman, his grandchildren Anna Robinson Russo, Amanda Flaherty, Alyssa Raples, Sean Flaherty, Emily Robinson, Thomas Flaherty, Olivia Raples, Michael Flaherty, Matthew Flaherty and James Flaherty, Two great-grandchildren Maeve Patricia and Bennet Michael. Patrick is also the brother of Mary Salvucci of Mashpee, Gail Conroy and her husband Stephen of Dennis, and the late Theresa Flaherty, and a sister-in-law Jean Jakubajtys of So Weymouth. Patrick also leaves behind several Nieces and Nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Patrick on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 3-6pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. Friends will gather in the funeral home Monday morning for a Celebration of Life prior to the Funeral Mass which will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church in S. Weymouth at 10am. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, South Weymouth.
