Nelly Brussard

Nelly (Solimini) Brussard of Weymouth, age 104, passed away peacefully on March 24th at the home of her beloved niece, Patricia “Patty” McCaffrey and Arthur “Buddy” McCaffrey. Nelly was a caring wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt and great-great-great aunt to many nieces and nephews.  

Born to the late Vito Solimini and Laura (Lupo) Solimini on January 9, 1919. Nelly was raised and educated in Quincy, Massachusetts, graduating from Quincy high school class of 1937. She loved to go dancing, where she met her husband of 50 years, Walter “Wally” Brussard.  As a couple they perfected the jitterbug, listened to music of the big band era, and were avid card and game players.

Nelly was a lifelong reader, especially her Danielle Steele novels, and loved to cook and bake, famous for her Carne pizzaiola and chocolate chip cookies. She rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy, and remained a competitive card player and crossword enthusiast even in her 100th year!

Nelly was a kind and gentle soul, with a special place in her heart for animals, and cared for many dogs and cats over her lifetime. 

Nelly is survived by her loving sister, Ann “Annie” Briggs, countless nieces and nephews spanning generations, and was predeceased by her husband Walter Brussard, sisters, Annette Solimini and Phyllis “Mamie” Clapp, and her brothers, Vincent, Carmen, Corady, Vito, Nofri, and Joseph. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Nelly on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 10AM to 12PM , in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 134 Pleasant St.(Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, Ma. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation inside the funeral home at 12PM. Burial will be at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery located in Quincy, Ma.
