Mildred Eleanor Friberg, age 97, of Weymouth, passed away on November 4, 2023.
Mildred grew up in Quincy, MA, and spent the summers of her childhood in Nantucket with her sisters Jean (Bennett) and Marjorie (Barna), a place she fondly remembered and where she discovered a love for the ocean. She was the daughter of the late James T. Butler and Mildred H. Butler (Ochs). She graduated from Faulkner School of Nursing with an R.N. degree. With this degree, she worked as a registered nurse at South Shore Hospital before moving on to Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Mildred married the love of her life, the late John P. Friberg II, in 1952. He passed away when the children were young and she devotedly raised her two children on her own. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
Mildred enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and Boston sports, particularly the Red Sox. She was known for listening to WNAC radio Gus Saunders' Yankee Kitchen to write down new recipes to try and also WBZ talk radio. She loved to visit beaches, especially Nantasket, Cape Cod, and Nantucket.
Mildred is predeceased by her two children, Karen E. Phillips (Friberg) and John P. Friberg III and survived by son-in-law Warren G. Phillips and daughter-in-law Christine A. Friberg. She is also predeceased by siblings Ruth Keay, Charles Butler, Marjorie Barna, Jean Bennett, and Fred Butler. She leaves her loving grandchildren Jeffrey Phillips, Kristin Phillips, Jay Friberg, and Alison Friberg Bourget, as well as her great grandchildren Juliet Phillips, Harper Phillips, and Cecelia Friberg.
