Michael J Kelliher, aged 71, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2023. Michael was born in South Boston, raised in Dorchester and Quincy and he graduated from Cathedral High School in 1968. After high school he joined the Marines and in 1975 he married his beloved wife, Katherine. The two then settled in Weymouth after they married.
Michael worked for many years as a Metro Police Officer and then a Massachusetts State Trooper. He was a Marine Security Guard in Rome, Italy and the US Embassy Reserves WES 47 in Weymouth for many years. Michael was a member of many clubs including the McKeon Boxing Club, the Old Dorchester VFW Post, he was also the Post Commander of the John P McKeon Post in Boston. Michael was an avid golfer, often hitting the course three times a week. In addition to golf, he enjoyed fishing, softball, where he was an original member of the Challengers Softball Team, and hockey, where he played on the St. Anne's Hockey Team, the Metro Police Hockey Team, the Massachusetts State Hockey Team and South Coastal Hockey Team.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Kelliher (Fitzgerald), his siblings, Maureen Sullivan of West Bridgewater, Raymond Kelliher and his wife Rose of Brockton, Roseanne Keenan and her husband Charlie of West Bridgewater, Patricia Cull and her husband John of Milton, Tom Kelliher and his wife Maureen of Brockton, Ed Kelliher of Quincy, and Bobby Kelliher and his wife Donna of Quincy.
A funeral Mass for Michael will be held at the Saint Albert the Great Church located in Weymouth, Ma on Friday, February 17, at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Labre Indian School, The Disabled American Veterans, and to the Special Olympics using the links provided on this page.
