Mark Joseph Gifford of Weymouth passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, at the age of 76. Mark was born, raised and educated in Weymouth and graduated from the Weymouth Vocational High School in 1966. He started his career right out of school working as an electrician with Local 103. He became a registered nurse and worked for many years with the Red Cross and Brigham and Women’s Hospital before ending his working career as a personal trainer at the Weymouth Club.
Mark was an amazing man with a variety of talents and hobbies. He enjoyed physical fitness, boxing and even achieved his black belt in karate. Mark loved the outdoors whether it was fishing, riding his motorcycle or birdwatching. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, his physical abilities and most of all his family. He will be deeply missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
Mark was the beloved husband of Mary Lou Gifford of Weymouth for 56 years. He was the devoted father of Suzie Gifford of Weymouth, Jake Gifford his wife Sarah of Vineyard Haven and Katie Gifford Monahan of Hanover. He was the cherished Papa of Fiona, Liam and Donagh. Mark also leaves behind his siblings Nancy Gifford, John Gifford, his wife Jean and Earl Gifford and his wife Mary Jo.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation in honor of Mark on Monday December 2, 2024, from 4-8PM in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home (134 Pleasant St. Weymouth). A funeral service will take place Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11AM in the First Congregational Church of Hanover. Donations may be made in Mark’s memory to the First Congregational Church of Hanover.
