Marilyn (Brown) Janeway, age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Randy of 55 years and leaves behind daughter Carol J. McCarthy and her husband Mick of Sudbury, son Matthew A. Janeway of Weymouth, cherished grandchildren Shayne and Kate McCarthy, and sister Marsha Brown of Guilford, CT.
She is also predeceased by her sister Maxine Simpson and brother Carl Lytle.
Marilyn, known to family and childhood friends as “Frankie”, was the daughter of the late Frank Brown and Mary Savage Lytle Brown. She was born in Mt. Lake Park, MD and then raised and educated in Guilford, CT, graduating from Guilford High School in 1950 and attending New Haven College for business.
Marilyn married her beloved husband, Randy, in 1958 after he proposed on their first date... a story that Marilyn always enjoyed telling. They started a family together in North Branford CT, prior to settling in Weymouth where they lived for the rest of their lives.
She worked as the office manager for New Boston Temp Agency, was an executive assistant in Governor Weld's administration, and retired from the Weymouth Town Clerk's Office after years of service.
Marilyn was passionate about music and a talented singer her entire life. She performed with the Fine Arts Chorale for over 40 years, and a highlight of her life was the opportunity to travel and sing with the group across Europe numerous times. She was dedicated to her church and community; singing in the church choir for many years, taking on the role of Precinct Warden for all elections, and being an active member of the East Weymouth Neighborhood Association.
Her cheerful spirit, social nature, and ease with which she made all those around her feel welcomed and loved will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to the funeral service for Marilyn on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the Holy Nativity Church located at 8 Nevin Rd. S. Weymouth, MA 02190. Burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Church of the Holy Nativity or The Fine Arts Chorale.
