Marie C Ortiz

Marie C. Ortiz, aged 96 of Weymouth, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Marie was born and raised in East Weymouth where she attended East Weymouth High School. After graduating from high school, Marie went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Boston University. Marie married her beloved husband of 69 years, John Ortiz, in 1952 and they settled in South Weymouth where they started a family and have lived ever since.

Marie was a Weymouth elementary school teacher for many years. She was also active as a substitute teacher at the St. Francis Xavier and Sacred Heart elementary schools. Marie was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, where for many years she attended Mass daily. Her faith was of great importance to her and was reflected in how she lived and how she raised her family. Marie enjoyed cooking, traveling with her husband John to Europe, and being a devoted mother to her loving children.

Marie is predeceased by her loving husband John of Weymouth. She is survived by her children, Anita Ha and her husband Han of Hanover, John W. Ortiz Jr. of Weymouth, Stephen Ortiz and his wife Valerie of Sterling, Michael J. Ortiz and his wife Kathleen of Gaithersburg, MD, and Mary T. Ortiz of Washington DC, her cherished grandchildren, Derek, Steven, Mary Elizabeth, Michael, Marie, Philippe, Alexandre, Andrew, Isabelle, Marguerite, Sophie, William, David, Daniel, Sarah, and Caroline. Marie is also survived by her siblings, Dorick Corbo, Anne Frazier and by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Marie in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA on Thursday October 27, 2022 from 9-10:30am. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church in Weymouth at 11 immediately following the visitation. Burial will be held at Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marie’s name to the Arnold Hall Conference and Retreat Center.  https://www.arnoldhall.com/donate/.
