Lawrence George Lambros, age 87, of Weymouth passed away with his loving family by his side on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Lawrence leaves his wife of 66 years, Natalie Pomarico Lambros, five children and their spouses, Lisa Kralian of Grafton. George Lambros and his wife Judy of Sandwich, Margo Finch and her husband Martin of Sandwich, Lance Lambros and his wife Anna of Sandwich, Lars Lambros and his wife Julie of Braintree, and twelve grandchildren: Nathan Kralian and his wife Meagan, Rachel Jacobsen and her husband Scott, Mara O'Brien and her husband Joseph, Nicholas Lambros and his wife Kristen, Michael Lambros and his wife Tess, Joseph Hickey, Brian Hickey and his wife Melissa, Amanda Finch, Anthony Lambros, Dante Lambros, Bella Lambros and Sophia Lambros and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Robert Shuffleton, and his wife Jean, and his sister the late JoAnne Miller and her late husband Richard Miller. Larry also leaves his sister-in-law, Michele Hamilton and late brother-in-law Gerald Hamilton, of Weymouth, and brother-in-law, Joel Pomarico of Idaho, and special friends Don and Joan Tucci and Jim and Elaine Petersen and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lawrence was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran, past President and Paul Harris Fellow of Weymouth Rotary, life-time member of the Wessagussett Masonic Lodge (Now Weymouth United Lodge) and an Honorary member of the Weymouth Sportsman's Club.
Larry was a special education teacher and administrator for 42 years. He taught the first elementary special class in Cohasset in 1959, the first high school special class in Marshfield in 1966 and became the first Administrator of Special Education in Weymouth Public schools in 1967. Larry retired as the Assistant Superintendent of special educations of Weymouth Public Schools in 1988. He then served as the Executive Director of the Braintree Saint Coletta Day School for multiple handicapped students until 1994. Mr. Lambros was dedicated to the education of special needs children and was often referred to as a "pioneer" in the field.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Larry on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday Morning at the Immaculate Conception Church at 720 Broad St. Weymouth, MA at 10:30am. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s memory to the South Shore ARC at www.ArcSouthShore.org or St. Jude's Hospital at www.StJude.org.
