Kathleen A. Mitchell

                Kathleen A. Mitchell (McElhinney), age 79, of Weymouth passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 after a 2.5 year brave journey with cancer.  Kate was born and raised in Roxbury near St. Patrick’s Parish. She married her beloved husband, Al, in 1966 and they settled in Weymouth together where they have lived since and raised a family.

                Kate was predeceased by her husband Albert Mitchell. She is survived by her loving children Daniel Mitchell and his wife Karen of Danvers, Kelly Pelland and her husband Thomas of Bridgewater, and Edward Mitchell of Weymouth, and her cherished grandchildren Justin, Benjamin, and Jake. She is also the sister to Mary Cregan, Thomas McElhinney, Patricia Cassidy, and the late Michael McElhinney.  She is aunt to many nieces and nephews.

               Kate worked at The Patriot Ledger for many years and also worked doing data entry before retiring.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Senior Center playing LCR.  She loved tanning at the beach and visiting NH and Maine.  She will be remembered for her "larger than life" personality.  

                Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Kathleen on Sunday, June 25, 2023 from 3-6pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home on Monday morning at 9am for a Celebration of Life prior to the funeral mass which will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10am. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer research at www.danafarber.org.
