It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph A. Hurley of East Bridgewater, MA. Joe passed away on April 15th, 2025 at the age of 62. Joe was born on July 2nd, 1962 in Brookline, MA to James Hurley and Audrey Hurley (Steagall). He was raised in South Weymouth and graduated from North Weymouth Vocational in 1980.
Joe met the love of his life, Gigi in 1978. They married in 1987, settling in Whitman where they began raising their family. In 1998, they relocated to their forever home in East Bridgewater. After a three-year apprenticeship, Joe officially began his career with the Boston Local 7 Ironworkers and enjoyed a successful 30-year career before retiring.
Joe was passionate about travel, and the outdoors. He and his family shared many cherished trips. Joe and Gigi traveled all over the US, Caribbean and took a special historical trip to Europe visiting London and Normandy France. His most treasured trips were to Venice, Florida and the Florida Keys.
Joe traveled often to New Hampshire and Maine through the years, eventually purchasing a vacation home at Ossipee Lake in Freedom, NH. Joe enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, watching the Discovery Channel, and National Geographic; favorite shows being Gold Rush, Homestead Rescue, and anything to do with Alaska.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Geraldine "Gigi" Hurley and his sons: Justin D. Powers of Woburn, Jeremy J. Hurley of East Bridgewater, and Joseph A. Hurley Jr. and his fiancée Megan Bernadino of Acushnet, MA. He was a devoted grandfather to Lincoln. He is survived by his mother Audrey Hurley, his sister Judy Johnson (Ed), James Hurley (Mary), Daniel Hurley (Tracey), many brother in-laws, sister in-laws, cousins, uncle, aunts, nieces and nephews whom he loved greatly.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to a public visitation for Joe on Sunday, April 27th from 10AM to 1230PM in the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home. At 1230PM there will be a Celebration of Life service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Home Base Veterans New England programs and Pine Street Inn Boston MA.
