Joseph L. Calabro, Jr. of Weymouth, MA passed away, peacefully, at the age of 94 on June 15, 2023.

Joe was born in Belmont, MA on March 11, 1929, son of the late Joseph L. Calabro and Caroline M. Calabro. He was one of nine siblings and grew up in the Merrymount neighborhood of Quincy. Carolyn Mulholland and Roberta Vernaglia of Brockton, Eleanor Sabini of Milton, Richard Calabro of AZ and the late Jeannette G. Perot, Antoinette M Quain, Pauline M. Anderson, and Edward C. Calabro.

Joe was a loving, caring, devoted husband of 66 years to the late Rita M. (Leone) Calabro whom he adored and missed immensely. He was a very loving and supportive father who is survived by his children, Pamela J. Allie of Weymouth, Brian J. Calabro of Weymouth, Gregory J. Calabro and his partner, Diane Uzzo of Abington and his grandchildren, Jenna, Jomei, Tarin, Brian, Joseph and the late Steven J. Allie.

Joseph was raised and educated in Quincy. After serving his country in the Army immediately after high school, he married his beloved wife Rita. Joe and Rita settled in Weymouth where they lived until they retired to a condo in Falmouth in 1994. There, he took charge of the condo association. Joe enjoyed living near the ocean and took vacations to the islands with his wife.

Joe was well known for his saxophone playing when he started “The Joe Calabro Orchestra”. He also played the sax, a little piano and sang in countless weddings and functions. Joe spent his entire career as a Registered Land Surveyor as the Vice President of Harry R. Feldman, Inc. He was especially proud of surveying The Prudential Building in Boston, MA. Later he became a personal Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).

Sports was Joe’s favorite past time. He coached baseball and liked to play tennis, swim, ride his bike and play basketball and did those activities with his grandchildren. He was active in sports his entire life. He enjoyed watching all TV sports, as well.

Joe will be remembered for his funny antics, sense of humor and singing a tune at a moments notice. May Joe’s legacy be remembered through the years to come.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home in South Weymouth on Thursday, June 22, 2023 for a visitation for Joe from 10am-Noon. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at noon. Following the funeral services, we will be gathering at Blue Hill Cemetery for the burial service.
