John P. Connolly Sr., age 87, of South Weymouth, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024. Loving son of the late John and Nora (Flaherty) Connolly. John was born, raised and educated in Southie, graduating from South Boston High School in 1954. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Airforce for three years. He met the love of his life Jane while visiting the cape and the two married in May of 1964. They started their family in Dorchester until deciding to settle in South Weymouth, where they happily resided for the rest of their days.
John was a social man, and was good for a good joke and a laugh. John loved entertaining family and friends, especially during his annual Fourth of July party. He was known to sing the Irish classic “Danny Boy” at all of his family events. He was an avid lottery player, never missing a week to play his numbers. John enjoyed relaxing in the sun and golfing. He was a member of the Weymouth Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish.
John is predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane Connolly (Thorne). He is survived by his loving children, Karen Lennon and her husband Sean, of South Weymouth, Mary Connolly, of Weymouth, Kevin Connolly and his wife Kelly, of South Weymouth and John Connolly Jr. and his wife Ellen, of South Weymouth. John was also loved by his grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Alyssa, Katelyn, Kerrin and her fiancé Tom, Paul, Seamus, Brendan, Liam, Billy, and his great grandchildren, Taylor, Savannah, Cullem and Cameron. John was also predeceased by his siblings, Mary McCone, Nora “Aggie” Mantville, Margaret “Dolly” Talbot, Baby John Connolly, Edward Connolly, Michael James Connolly, Joseph Connolly, Thomas Connolly and Patricia “Patsy” Connolly. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for John on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 4-7pm, in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) South Weymouth. Friends and relatives will gather the following morning in the funeral home for a Celebration of Life for John at 9am, prior to the Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 10am. Burial will be private.
