John W. Brooks III, age 97, of Weymouth passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. John was raised and educated in Middleboro. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 where he proudly served his country for two years. John then went into photography and lithography. He went back to school and earned his bachelor's degree and became a personnel director, ending his career at Hanscom's Air Force Base. After retiring, he continued to work mentoring small business owners through SCORE. His mantra through life was PMA (Positive Mental Attitude).
John met his beloved wife, Mary, while in the hospital for surgery and immediately saw a connection. He married Mary in 1965 and they settled in Weymouth where they have cultivated countless fond memories raising their family together since then. John was the founding member of the Cancer Crusaders, a support group for people struggling with the disease.
John was predeceased by his wife Mary Brooks (Barbieri). He is the father of Norman Babcock and his wife Kathy of Norton, Janet Parker and her husband Gregg of AK, Paula Fuller and her late husband Paul of Weymouth, Donna Flanagan of W. Yarmouth, Cheryl Craig of Sandwich, and Terrance Brooks and his wife Nancy of Rochester, cherished grandfather to 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Twin great granddaughters Casey and Dalton Wetzel have entertained him many times a week for the past several years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for John on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. A private graveside service with military honors will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery located on Pond St. in S. Weymouth on Saturday.
