Joan Newell

Joan M. Newell (Crowley), age 96, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024. Joan was born, raised and educated in Norwood, graduating from Norwood High School in 1945. She married the love of her life, George, in her early twenties and the two moved to Dorchester for a time. After leaving Dorchester, they headed north to Machias, Maine, where they raised their loving family. They settled in Weymouth in 1979, after George retired.

Joan was an avid reader, she had boxes of books delivered to her regularly from her book club membership. She was an excellent cook, and was quite adept at canning, especially vegetables from her garden.

Joan is predeceased by her husband, George A. Newell Sr. She is survived by her loving children, George A. Newell Jr. and his wife, Vicki, of Holden, Maine, William F. Newell and his wife, Jackie, of Farmington, New Hampshire and Joan M. Ellison, of Weymouth. Joan was loved by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan will be missed dearly by her cat Bailey.
