Janis (Coyle) Ford, born April 19, 1953, passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital following complications from pneumonia in the early hours of December 15, 2024.
A 1970 graduate of Weymouth High School, Janis went on to work in financial services for many years at State Street Bank, New England Trust and Sunguard Financial Services. She later taught driver’s education for Woods Auto School, and was the CFO for her brother Mike’s business, Airport Courier.
Her true love was her family, especially her grandchildren. She took great pride in teaching them life skills, such as cooking a good meal, including different vegetables and singing about it while cooking. Her grandson Matt just learned that Brown Sugar is a real song, not just some craziness that Nan yelled in the kitchen. She also taught them how to bet at the racetrack, and to always have the best manners. True life lessons.
Former wife of Edward Ford of Weymouth, Janis leaves behind her daughter, Tammy (Ford) Ridder and her husband Todd of Weymouth, along with their children Matthew and Kaitlyn Ridder, the lights of her life. She also leaves behind her siblings, Michael Coyle and his wife Eileen O’Connor of Lynn, sister Kathleen Coyle and her husband William Perry of New Hampshire , sister Susan Richardson and her husband Timothy of Beverly, and sister in law Margaret Sullivan of Medford. She was predeceased by her oldest brother Kevin, and her parents James and Catherine Coyle. Also predeceased by her partner “G”, George Francis McAdams. She also leaves nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Maura, Regina, James, Jay, Sean, and great niece Evelyn Jane.
Janis’s wishes were to not have a funeral or a wake but rather to have a party. She asked for “food, booze, music, family and friends”, and for her ashes to be spread in Cabo San Lucas. There will be a celebration of life in the spring respecting those wishes. We hope you will join us in remembering Janis and sharing some memories you have. Details will be shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Weymouth Food Pantry, just as she always did for others. Weymouth Food Pantry P.O. Box 890009 Weymouth, Ma 02189
