Helena A. (LeVangie) Moriarty, 95, died peacefully on December 6, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness.
Daughter of the late John A. and Mary M (Butler) LeVangie, she was born on June 8, 1929, in the original South Shore Hospital.
Helena was a 1947 graduate of Weymouth High School where she made lifelong friends and served on the annual ’47 reunion committee. Following high school, she was employed at an insurance company in Boston’s financial district where she met her future husband, Jack Moriarty. Helena and Jack were married in 1950 and settled in North Weymouth to raise their family of five children. She was a lifelong resident of North Weymouth.
Helena worked at the South Shore Music Circus for more than two decades in a job that was very fulfilling to her. She began as Secretary and Group Sales Director, building the theater’s group sales significantly. Following this success, she moved to the position of Executive Administrator for the theater. Through her job she cultivated many lifelong friendships with the agents and performers and was a mother figure to many of the summer interns.
Blessed with an infectious sense of humor (and the ability to laugh at herself), Helena was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, and nothing pleased Helena and Jack more than a trip to New York City. After Jack’s death, she enjoyed travelling to see her children and grandchildren in Florida.
Helena leaves her children: Terry Moriarty Moreno of Winter Garden, FL; Helena M. Anderson and John J. Moriarty III of North Weymouth; Paul F. Moriarty and his wife Jeanine of Hunters Creek, FL; son-in-law Richard J. Mandeville of North Weymouth; brother, John A. LeVangie and his wife Mary of North Scituate; grandchildren, Andrea M. Mattinson, Michael R. Moreno, Rachael E. Obermeier, Richard J. Mandeville Jr. and Jennifer A. Mandeville, Brian A. Moriarty, Sean J. Moriarty, James M. Moriarty, Alexandra L. Porter, John V. Anderson, five great grandchildren, Keaton, Hudson, Nolan and Madden Obermeier and Jackson Porter, all of whom affectionately knew her as Gaga. She also had eight nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Helena is also survived by her longtime friends, Bob Donovan, and Lois Delaney, who she lovingly thought of as her “other kids.” Through her years, she developed a special bond with each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Helena was predeceased by her husband John J. Moriarty Jr., daughter Mary M. Mandeville and son-in law Roberto (Bob) Moreno.
Funeral services will be private.
