Helen C. Barker, age 93, of South Weymouth, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024. Helen was born in Boston, raised and educated in Dorchester. She graduated from Saint Patrick's High School in 1948, and married the love of her life, Robert W. Barker in 1949. The two settled in Weymouth to raise their family and resided there for many years.
Helen was a telephone operator for many years, and worked as a switchboard operator for South Shore Hospital for thirty plus years. She loved knitting and sewing and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, candlepin bowling and bingo. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was one of ten children and had nine of her own, they meant everything to her.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert W. Barker Sr. She is survived by her loving children, Marie B. Bouley, of Kingston, Anne E. Heerwagen and her husband, Peter, of Fort Meyers, Florida, Catherine M. Kopper and her husband, Robert, of Pembroke, George Barker and his wife, Laurie, of East Bridgwater, Robert W. Barker Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Stoughton, Patricia Barker of Newburyport, James Barker Sr., of Brockton, Paul Barker Sr. and his wife, Marian, of Cape Coral, Florida, and Charles Barker and his wife, Mary, of South Weymouth. Helen was loved by her twenty two grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her sister, Sister Agnes Catherine Coyle SCH, of Wellesley.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Helen on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 9-9:30am, in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 134 Pleasant St.(Columbian Sq.) South Weymouth. A funeral Mass for Helen will be held after the visitation, at Saint Francis Xavier Church, located at 234 Pleasant St. South Weymouth, at 10am. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sisters of Charity Mount Saint Vincent Retirement Center, 125 Oakland Street, Wellesley, MA 02481.
