Gertrude T. O'Rourke (Shannon), age 96, of Hingham passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Gert was born and raised in the Charlestown and Somerville areas where she graduated from Somerville High in 1944. She married her beloved husband, Joe, in 1947.
Gert and Joe started a family in Hyde Park, Dorchester, and Rockland until settling in Hingham in 1976 where she has lived since. Gert retired from Talbots in Hingham in 1989. She enjoyed casino nights with friends and family but her true passion was being dedicated to her family of whom she is so proud.
Gertrude was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph O'Rourke, her parents James H. and Rose E (Bovean) Shannon, her children Brian O'Rourke and Maureen Sealund, her very close sister-in-law Sister Ursulina O'Rourke, and her sister Rosemary Bielecki. She is survived by her sons Bob O'Rourke and his wife Sue of Hanover, Rick O'Rourke and his wife Cyndy of Fairhaven, Kevin O'Rourke and his wife Kathy of Whitman, Paul O'Rourke and his wife Cassie of Kingston, and Jack O'Rourke (Retired WPD) and his wife Traci of Weymouth, her cherished grandchildren Thomas, Scott, Sean, Steven, Megan, Brendan, Daniel, Bryan, Shannon, Ryan, Sean, and Connor, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was also the mother-in-law of Vermillia O’Rourke of California and Terry Sealund of Delware.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Gert on Monday, January 9, 2023 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10am Tuesday morning for a Celebration of Life prior to the funeral mass at 11am in St. Paul's Church located in Hingham Center. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul's Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph at 637 Cambridge St, Brighton, MA 02135.
