Frederick "Rick" Gallagher of South Weymouth passed away at home on February 5, 2025, at the age of 84 surrounded by his loving family. Rick was born on November 22, 1940, and was raised and educated in Dorchester before graduating from Weymouth High School. He began his career at Casey & Hayes Moving Company and later, after retirement, spent many years working at Olden's Pharmacy in Columbian Square where he made deliveries all around town and was well known on his routes to stop and tell someone a joke or burst out into song to make his customers smile. His laugh was truly infectious and recognizable all-around Columbian Square.
Rick met Lee, the love of his life at Moseley's on the Charles River in Dedham. Rick always would reminisce and tell the story of how he saw Lee under the light on the dancefloor and knew immediately that she was the one. They married before settling in South Weymouth, where they raised their family. Rick was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5027 of South Weymouth and proudly served as the "Commish" of his bowling league for 60 years.
Rick is survived by his loving children, Robin Gallagher and her husband Mark Fitzgerald of Scituate, and Rick Gallagher Jr. and his wife Kristen of Weymouth. He was a devoted grandfather to MaKayla and Connor and will be dearly missed by his cherished grandpups Buddy, Finley, Emerald, and Clover. He was also a special uncle to many nieces and nephews.
After his beloved Lee passed away, Rick went to live at Fairing Way in Weymouth where he made instant connections with all of the residents. He often referred to his friends there as an "extended family" to him. Rick loved to be involved in all of the fun activities and was no stranger to jumping up to sing with the band or belt out "My Way" at Karaoke night. He could often be found leading the conga line, playing left right center and saying his daily rosary out on the front porch.
Rick had a strong love for music, singing and dancing and his vibrant personality lit up every room he walked into. Rick made everyone he met feel special.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation for Rick on Monday, February 10th, from 4 - 7PM at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St., Weymouth, MA, in Columbian Square. A brief Celebration of Life will be held the following day, Tuesday, February 11th, at 11AM at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 12 PM. Burial will immediately follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rick’s memory to Dwyer Home's ATTN: Activity Account at 25 Stonehaven Dr., South Weymouth, MA 02190 for the residents.
