Ed was incredibly active in his church and community, but mostly in the lives of his family. His wife and children were everything to him. He devoted as much time as he could to them, whether it be attending baseball games, helping with boy scouts, going to father daughter dances and dance recitals, or grilling something delicious to eat (he was known to be a "grill master"). He and his wife Mal enjoyed spending their time together. For many years they traveled south to Clearwater, Florida as well as vacationing on Nantucket with friends. They also volunteered at the Silver Street Thrift Shop at their church. He enjoyed yard work , his lawn was meticulously well kept and and he was proud of taking care of his home.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Melchin (McNutt), of Hanover. He is also survived by his loving children, James Edward Melchin, of Carver, and Jennifer Elizabeth Barry and her husband Kevin, of Marshfield. And, his sister-in-law Nancy Smith of Weymouth. He is predeceased by Edward and Dorothy McGowan. Ed will be missed by his nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his many many friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service for Ed on Saturday December 16, 2023, at 11am, at the First Congregational Church, located at 547 Hanover St in Hanover. There will be a reception immediately after the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memorial Fund at First Congregational Church in Hanover.
