Edward J. Langill, Jr., age 82, of Hingham passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Ed was raised and educated in Quincy and then entered the Navy after graduating from Quincy schools. He married his beloved wife, Cheryl "Sherry" (Renkert), in 1966. Ed and Sherry started a family in Hull then settled in Hingham where they have lived since.
Ed was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Navy from 1959 - 1964 as a sharp shooter and parachute rigger and he proudly served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. After leaving the Navy, Ed met his wife and they both enjoyed several years working for his late Uncle Jack at Langill Amusements, a traveling carnival company. Ed then became a licensed steam engineer, running the boiler room at South Shore Hospital, from where he retired. Ed was a consummate jokester up to the day he passed, playing jokes and making people laugh. He was an avid golfer and had many fond memories of friends he met at Green Harbor Golf Club in Marshfield. Ed was the former president of the Hingham Lions Club and Assistant Scout Master for Troop 4 in Hingham.
Ed was predeceased by his parents Edward J. Sr. and Frances M. (Richards) Langill, his son David Langill, his grandson Aron, his brother Richard (Dickie), and his son-in-law Michael. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Cheryl A. "Sherry" Langill of Weymouth, his children Ted Langill of Weymouth, Jim Langill and his wife Elizabeth of Hanson, and CherylAnn McMorrow of Hingham, his grandchildren Tyler and his wife Caitlin, Amanda and her husband Nick, Patrick and his wife Brianna, Kathryn, Nicholas, Ryan, and Bailey, and his great-grandson Emmett. He is also survived by his siblings Jane Andrews, Leslie Langill, and William Langill.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Ed on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. A funeral service will take place in the Funeral Home Saturday Morning at 10:30am, attendants are encouraged to arrive at 10am. Burial will be private at a later date at the Bourne National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America (DAV) at 3 Victory Lane Gardner, MA 01440.
