Dorothy Lois MacAskill

Dorothy MacAskill (Gilpin), age 78, of Weymouth, passed away on September 21, 2024. Dorothy was born, raised and educated in Boston, graduating from Cardinal Cushing and Dorchester High School in 1964. After high school she opened her own interior design and lighting store called "Lights Out" before ultimately deciding to start a career as a ball room dancer. 

Dorothy was an incredibly strong and creative woman. She raised three children on her own all while working full time. She adored gardening, dancing and travelling. She was very compassionate and loved animals, especially her four cats. Dorothy was an active member of New Beginnings.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved children, Michael Hipe and his wife Julie, of Georgia, Deborah MacAskill-Hughes and her husband Allen, of Weymouth and Kim Marie Drab and her husband David, of Florida. Dorothy was also loved by seven grandchildren and her siblings, Stephen Gilpin of New Hampshire and Kevin Gilpin and his wife Janice of Maynard. Dorothy will also be missed by her two nieces.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Dorothy on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 4-8pm, in the CC Shepherd Funeral Home. Relatives and friends will gather the following morning in the funeral home at 10am for a funeral service for Dorothy. Burial will be at New Cavalry Cemetery in Boston.
