Frances “Fran” (Packard) Merten, age 81, passed away at the South Shore Hospital on Tuesday April 12, 2011. Fran was the beloved wife of the late John F. Merten and is survived by her loving children; Jean Merten of S. Weymouth, Mary Ann Cole of N. Weymouth, James Merten and his wife Martha of Henderson, NV, Patricia Fleming and her husband David of N. Weymouth, John Merten of Hanover and Michael Merten of Plymouth. Devoted grandchildren; Kristen Esson, Michael Cole, Crystal, Amanda Taylor, Olivia and Danisha Merten and her great grandchildren, Faith Esson and Charles Cole. Fran is predeceased by her parents Irving and Caroline (Amabile) Packard, her sister Theresa Webb and her brother Joseph Packard. She was born and raised in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1947. She worked for Weymouth Public Library for 16 years and was a member of the Weymouth Historical Society and the Mayflower Society. Fran’s life was being a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, Nana and Nana Frana, great grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend. The Funeral will be from the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Tuesday, April 26 at 9 A.M. followed by the Funeral Mass at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 261 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth at 10 A.M. Visiting will be on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery on Tuesday at 12:30 P.M. Donations may be made in Fran’s memory to the Weymouth Historical Society at the Holbrook House, 238 Park Ave. S.
