Thomas Joseph Lindsay, Sr. age 89, formerly of South Weymouth passed away on February 9, 2011 with his wife and family by his side in Bradenton Florida. Tom was born on June 6, 1921 in Boston MA to Walter and Mary Drew Lindsay.
Mr. Lindsay was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Mary Rose (Greco) Lindsay, on March 9, 1999. Tom remarried in 2000 to Joan Doherty and they resided in Ellenton FL.
Mr. Lindsay was predeceased by a brother Donald and is survived by his sister Margaret Fryer, and his six children; Marsha (Lindsay) Crawford of Marco Island FL and her husband George, Thomas J. Lindsay, Jr. of Woodbury VT and his wife Evelyn Bailey, David W. Lindsay of Merrimack, NH and his wife Betsy, William F. Lindsay of Yorktown Heights, NY and his wife Karen, Richard M. Lindsay and his wife Terri of Simpsonville, SC, and Jeanne (Lindsay) Dempsey and her husband Michael of East Weymouth, MA., 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Franklin NH High School, Tom served in WWII as an Electronics Mate 1st Class aboard the USS Iowa in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Lindsay attended Dartmouth College and the University of Wisconsin as a member of the Navy’s V-12 unit. He retired from the New England Telephone Company as network engineer in 1981 after a 38 year career.
Mr. Lindsay, along with raising six children, was active in the town of Weymouth serving as a Town Meeting Member, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Planning Board Member, Library Trustee, South Shore Savings Bank Trustee, and Scout Master with Troop 50. Tom was a past president of the Tidevue Estates Community Association in Ellenton FL. He had a passion for golf and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Weymouth Revolutionary War Militia as well. Mr. Lindsay was a member of the Elks, VFW, K of C and Moose fraternal organizations.
Funeral from the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth, MA on Thursday February 17 at 9 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass at the Saint Francis Xavier Church, 261 Pleasant Street, S. Weymouth, MA at 10 A.M. Visiting Hours will be on Wednesday form 4 to 8 P.M. Internment in the Mount Hope Cemetery in S. Weymouth.
