Arthur “Red” Parnaby, age 88, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday January 12, 2011. He was the husband of the late Toini (Kulju) Parnaby. Red is survived by his children, Sandra Darling of Weymouth, John Parnaby of Rockland and Chris Parnaby of Weymouth. Arthur also leaves 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Red was a life long resident of Weymouth. He worked at the Quincy Shipyard before becoming a sheet metal worker for Union Local 17. Arthur served his country in the Navy during World War II. Red was a member of the First Church in Weymouth, a 50 year member of the Masonic Hope Lodge in Weymouth and a past member of the Massachusetts Striped Bass Association. He was a wood carver of birds and instructed bird carving at the Whipple Senior Center in Weymouth for many years. Red was also an avid fisherman. A Funeral Service will be held at the First Church in Weymouth, 17 Church St., Weymouth on Monday January 17 at 11 A.M. Visiting Hours will be at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Sunday from 1 to 5 P.M. Interment will be in the Old North Cemetery in Weymouth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Red’s memory to the First Church in Weymouth, 17 Church St. Weymouth, MA 02189.
