Francis W. Abbott Jr., age 91, passed away at Southwood at Norwell on Saturday January 1, 2011. Frank was the husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” (Tafton) Abbott, the father of William Abbott and his wife Denise of Walpole, Deborah St. Andre and her husband William of Braintree and Kenneth Abbott and his wife Virginia of Braintree, the grandfather of Marc Abbott, Michael and Lauren St. Andre, Kristen Gianelis and her husband Stephen and Melissa Staffier and her husband Anthony and the great-grandfather of Christopher and Jonathan Abbott, Hannah and Ethan Gianelis and Madelyn Staffier. He also leaves his sisters, Phyllis Wilson of Auburn, ME and Barbara Woodbury of Hingham. Francis was born and raised in Quincy and graduated form Quincy High School in 1937, before moving to Braintree for 32 years, Deering, NH for 12 years and South Weymouth for the last 10 years. He was a longtime employee of Proctor and Gamble in Braintree and Quincy before retiring in 1982. Frank served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was an active member of the Heritage Methodist Church in Braintree, the Deering Community Church in Deering, NH and a current member of the Old South Union Congregational Church in South Weymouth. Francis enjoyed traveling, golfing and gardening and loved his grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Thursday January 6 at 10 A.M. Visiting Hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Frank’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472. www.alz.org/manh/.
