Arthur F. Newell

Arthur F. Newell, age 83, passed away at Wingate at Silver Lake in Kingston on Sunday October 10, 2010. Arthur is survived by his wife Shirley (LaVangie) Newell, his 2 sons, Bryan Newell and his wife Tracey of Quincy and Steven Newell and his wife Anne of Plymouth, his daughter, Lori Newell of Long Island, NY, his grandson Shane Newell of Quincy and his sister Evelyn Junkin of Leesburg, VA. He was born in New Haven, CT and moved to Weymouth at the age of 2 where he lived for 32 years. He lived in Rockland for 9 years before moving to Middleboro where he lived for the last 6 years. At the age of 18 he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Belleauwood for 2 years before attending the Rhode Island School of Design. Arthur worked at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy after graduation before becoming a Mechanical Designer at Pneumatic Scale in Quincy for 38 years. He retired in 1989. Visiting Hours will be at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Wednesday October 13 from 10 to 11 A.M. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11 A.M. Interment will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Art’s memory to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
