Barbara V. (Pettee) MacSwan age 90,passed away after a period of failing health at Weymouth Healthcare on Sunday September 5,2010, wife of the late John R. MacSwan beloved mother of Gail and her husband William Izbicki of Hull and Douglas and his wife Sally MacSwan of New Fairfield CT. Loving Grandmother of Juliana, Emily and Erica MacSwan, sister in-law of Walter Aikens of Dublin VA. also survived by many nieces and nephews. Barbara was a member of Weymouth Baptist Church for over 50 years and sang in the choir for over 40 years and was a former Deaconess. Most recently she attended Community Baptist church in Weymouth, Mrs. MacSwan was on the South Shore Hospital’s board of directors as well as past president of The Friends of South Shore Hospital,volunteer group at the hospital as well, She was past president of the Old Colony P.M. Club in Weymouth as well as Legislation Chairman. And was active in the Mass State Federation of Womens Club Barbara also served as the Weymouth Women’s Club (International Chairman). Active in civic affairs Barbara served on the Weymouth Republican Town Committee and was chairman for many years, Town Meeting Member, Registrar of Voters, and a member on the Weymouth Historical Society. Barbara was also a Doric Dame at the State House in Boston. Mrs. MacSwan enjoyed traveling which included two trips to Russia with a singing group,Barbara was dedicated to her fraternal organizations a 50 year member and former officer of Mayflower Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She served many years on the Rainbow Girls Assembly board and Demolay Boys mother’s club, Funeral Service will be held on Thursday September 9, 2010 at 11 A.M Community Baptist Church 17 Mutton Ln. Weymouth Mass. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday 4-8 P.M. Eastern Star service at 7 P.M. at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Square) South Weymouth, relatives and friends invited.
