John Robert Conlin, a lifelong resident of Weymouth passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on April 1, 2010 at the age of 58.
He is survived by his cherished wife Marie (Pellicane) and his 4 children; Russell Conlin of Weymouth, Jason and his wife Julia of Newtown, CT, John Fink, Jr. of Wendell and Danielle (Fink) Sujdak and her husband Andrew of Athol. Grandpa will be sadly missed by nine wonderful and caring grandchildren.
John was a supervisor and Goliath crane operator at the General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy for many years. He was later employed by the Mass Water Resources Authority. He worked at the Nut Island and Deer Island treatment plants during his 22 year career.
John and his family enjoyed boating in Boston Harbor and trips to Martha’s Vineyard. He was a member of the Town River Yacht Club in Quincy. He was also a ‘car guy’ who enjoyed driving and showing his antique truck at various car shows and events and attending cruise nights with his sons and grandchildren.
John and his wife enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Maine, Cape Cod, Florida and Bermuda. They also enjoyed trips to the family’s summer home in the Berkshires and weekending on their ‘cottage’, the “Misty Marie, too”.
John was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a past Commander of the former Flotilla 12-2 in Quincy and enjoyed teaching safe-boating classes at TRYC.
John was the son of the late Francis and Laura Mae (Baker) Conlin.
John also leaves his brothers, Lawrence and his wife Marie and Eric, both of Weymouth and his sister Nancy Carey and her husband Thomas of Woonsocket, RI.. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as 7 great-nieces.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Old South Union Congregational Chapel, 25 Columbian St. S. Weymouth Thursday April 8, at 11:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, a donation in John’s memory may be made to Norwell Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 91 Longwater Circle, Norwell, MA 02061.
