Walter M Cook, age 81, passed away after a long illness at the Tufts Medical Center on March 25, 2010. Walter is survived by his wife of 56 years, Stella (Roderson) Cook, a son Steven Cook of Florida and his daughter Sandra and her husband Joseph Scibilia of Bridgewater. He is also survived by 3 step-grandchildren and their spouses; 6 step-great grandchildren; a sister- in-law Cleo Foley of Duxbury; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews and cousins.
Walter was born and raised in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School. He served in the Army before graduating from Northeastern University. After marrying Stella they lived in Weymouth and moved to Braintree 42 years ago.
He retired after more than 30 years with G.T.E. Sylvania as a Technical Writer and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. In retirement he worked part time for H & R Block.
Walter had enjoyed bowling for many years, gardening and traveling with his wife, especially on cruises. He had a great love for dogs, the Red Sox, dining out and watching tennis on TV. He will be especially remembered as a caring and devoted husband, a real gentleman who was honest, sensitive and kind to all.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday March 29 at 10 A.M. at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Visiting Hours will be on Sunday from 3 to 7 P.M. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Walter’s memory to the Tufts Medical Center, 800 Washington St., Box 231, Boston, MA 02111-1526 in honor of Drs. R. Kopelman, G. Strauss and L.
