Michael J. Mulcahy Jr. Passed away August 10, 2009 at the age of 84 after a 4 month battle with Cancer. He was born July 10, 1925 in Boston, raised in Braintree; he excelled as an athlete becoming an all-scholastic standout in both football and baseball. He left Braintree High in 1943 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps attending boot camp at Paris Island and then camp Lejeune. He served in the South Pacific but saw his heaviest fighting on the island of Guam
Where he was a loader on a 90mm gun. It was the first time in history artillery was used during an amphibious landing. He also served patrolling with the 9th Marines to secure the island.
After returning from service he continued his education at Franklin Institute and Massasoit College. He married Diana (Macri) on February 7, 1953 and co-founded Mulcahy Corp and in April of 1983 he founded M.J. Mulcahy and Sons Inc. and served as Chairman of Board. He was the past president of Weymouth Kiwanis Club and the Weymouth South football parents. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus #5027, Veterans of Foreign Wars 9260 and American Legion 79. In 1994 Michael underwent a laryngectomy, losing his vocal cords to cancer.He and his wife of 56 years spent many winters on Ft. Myers Beach and Cape Coral Florida where he enjoyed his boat and hosting family and friends. He leaves his wife Diana (Macri). And his children James and his wife Joey of Plympton. Brian, Sean and his wife Cathie, Michael, Mark and his wife Caroline, all of Weymouth, Grandfather of James,Erin,Ryan,Timothy,Kellie,Daniel,Tyler,Joseph,Ronan, and his namesake Michael and also survived by two great grandchildren Jack Ryan and Mia Karys of Barnstable. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday August 14, 2009 at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home at 10 A.M.
