Arlene (Sullivan) Knott, age 86, entered into rest on August 2, 2009 at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. Arlene, originally from Braintree, spent over 40 years in South Weymouth as the loving wife of her high school sweetheart, the late John A. Knott who entered into rest on August 6, 1999. She is survived by her devoted daughter Susan K. Durant, her caring son-in-law Glenn J. Durant and her cherished grandchildren Jason A. Durant and Lindsay E. James all of Marshfield. Arlene was a graduate of Braintree High School in 1944 and Boston University in 1948. Arlene was an active PTO member in the Weymouth Schools and a Girl Scout Leader during Susan’s youth. She later became a volunteer at the South Shore Hospital, the American Red Cross and for a swim program for children with handicaps and special needs. Arlene also spent over ten years as a substitute teacher at the Weymouth High School. She was a member and past president of the Women’s Guild at the Church of the Holy Nativity in South Weymouth and a member of the Red Hat Society. In their retirement John and Arlene enjoyed many cruises and spent many happy years in their summer home in Francestown, NH.
