Helen B. (Goneau) Smith a resident of Weymouth passed away on Friday April 17, 2009 after a short illness at the age of 85. She is the wife of the late Douglas W. Smith. Mrs. Smith is the beloved mother of Mary H. Donovan and her husband Stephen Donovan of Duxbury. She is nana to Eric Spinney of Oregon, Josh Donovan of Duxbury and Katrina Fleming of Framingham as well as great nana of Liam and Owen Spinney. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her beloved animals, Elvis her Dog and Misty her Cat. Helen was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada on January 1, 1924, moved to Dorchester in 1949 and lived there until 1969 when she and her husband Doug moved to Weymouth where she has lived for the last 40 years; Helen enjoyed working with the elderly as a Nurses Aid in her younger years, and helping where needed with her husband’s painting business. Helen was extremely devoted to her family. She enjoyed her many trips to Canada and had a great love for animals, she had an extraordinary memory and enjoyed telling stories and jokes and was truly the life of the party. Her love of life was contagious and affected all those who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to the visiting hours at the C.C, Shepherd Funeral Home 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) South Weymouth on Tuesday April 21 from 4-8 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday April 22 at 11A.M. at the First Parish Church, 842 Tremont St, Duxbury. Interment will take place at a later date in Canada where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Doug.
