Herbert H. Spinney “Herbie” 72 years old, passed away peacefully on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2009. Herbie was the loving husband of the late Eileen P. Spinney, the loving and devoted father Leesa Bleicken and her husband Craig of Cohasset and Mark H. Spinney of S. Boston, the loving and devoted step-father of Jean Percival, Kristen Percival and John Percival all of Quincy, the adoring grandfather of Alexa and Owen Bleicken, Kelsey and Delancy Spinney, Melissa Jones and the late Kathryn Spinney. He was also the loving and caring brother of Eva Moschella of Woburn, Arthur Spinney of Woburn and Norman Spinney of Weymouth. He will be missed by his many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Herbert was born in Boston and graduated from Boston Trade School as an electrician. After graduation, his deep sense of patriotism led him in to the Navy; He proudly served aboard the USS Battleship Wisconsin. During his time in the Navy he was a Golden Glove Boxer where he earned the nickname “Lefty”. He was a proud life long member of Dorchester’s IBEW Local 103 Electrical Union. Through the years he taught night school to aspiring electricians. Mr. Spinney also worked for the MBTA in Boston and Charlestown retiring in 2002. He had many interests throughout his life; He was a gourmet cook and thought it was fun to master new recipes, he watched cooking shows and was delighted by the challenge of trying new cooking techniques. Cooking was one special way to show his love for family and friends. He was also an avid reader. He truly relaxed by listening to the sounds of his music Library filled with an eclectic array of music ranging from Frank Sinatra, Sting, contemporary Jazz to his beloved Opera. He will be most remembered by his sense of humor, loyal patriotism and his unwavering love and devotion for his family. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held on Saturday April 4 at 10 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 720 Broad St, E. Weymouth.
