Joseph E. Coveney age 82, a former resident of Quincy and South Weymouth passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital on February 4, 2009. Mr. Coveney was the husband of the late Ethelyn “Babe” (Dennison) Coveney. Joe is the dear father of 6 daughters; Susan Venuti of Titusville, FL, Mary Coveney of Key West, FL, Nancy Fuss, Joanne Coveney, Terry Orr, and Charlotte Coveney all of Martha’s Vineyard and 1 son William Coveney of Seekonk. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Bill Coveney of Reading, Jim Coveney of Phoenix, AZ and Jack Coveney of S. Weymouth and 3 sisters, Sister Mary Therese of the Carmelite Monastery in Danvers, Janet Herlihey of Amherst, NH and Diane Wentworth of Rockland, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Coveney is predeceased by his parents, William and Bertha Coveney. Joe attended Weymouth High School and was the captain of the football team in 1943 and 1944 and served in the Navy during World War 2. Joe was a salesman most of his life, he was the Vice President of Lodenfrey International Coat Manufacturing Company and the owner of Coveney Vending Company until he retired and moved to Martha’s Vineyard. Friends and relatives are invited to the Funeral at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Wednesday February 11 at 10:15 A.M. and the Funeral Mass at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 261 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth at 11:15 A.M. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Carmelite Monastery, 15 Mount Carmel Rd. Danvers, MA 01923-3796.
