Shirley S. (Bicknell) Wight of Weymouth died Friday, November 28, 2008 at South Shore Hospital after a long illness. Shirley was a member of the Bicknell family, one of the founding families of Weymouth and was a life long resident of the town. She retired in 1983 as Assistant Treasurer for the Town of Weymouth and recently retired as a member of the Board of Trustees of South Shore Savings Bank. Shirley was a 50 year member of Mayflower Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Weymouth High School class of 1938 reunion committee. She was a former active member of the Third Universalist Church in North Weymouth where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was an officer of the Couples Club. After retirement Shirley enjoyed many hours as an avid golfer and socializing with her many friends.
Beloved wife of the late Willis M. Wight. Loving mother of Arleen N. Boyd and her husband Richard, David B. Wight and his wife Barbara and Paul B. Wight, all of Weymouth. Devoted grandmother of Kristin Leonard, Kimberly Leonard, Jennifer Blair, Stacy Churchill, Allison Akarsu, and Melissa Boyd. Proud great-grandmother of Imaya Leonard, Devon Blair, and Leyla Akarsu. Shirley is also survived by her brother-in-law Donald C. Cormack of Weymouth and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday November 30 at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) South Weymouth. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, immediately following the visiting hours. Internment will be private.
