Helen Rich passed away at the Marina Bay Skilled Care and Rehabilitation Center in Quincy on June 27, 2008 at the age of 85. Mrs. Rich is the wife of the late Carroll H. Rich. Helen is survived by her 2 sisters, Claire Fisher of Sterling, MA and Ruth Perry of Inverness, FL, 4 nieces, Margaret Badal of Knoxville, TN, Emily Kelle of Hixson, TN, Karen Hesford of Boise, ID and Heather Murphy of Boynton Beach, FL and 3 nephews, Christopher White of Simi Valley, CA, Jeremy White of Salt Lake City, UT and Peter Sinclair of West Palm Beach, FL. She was born in Sandwich and was a long time resident of Weymouth. Helen received her bachelor’s degree from Framingham State College. Her education career spanned over 37 years: the last 24 years were spent in the Newton Public Schools. She helped adults with basic reading and English as a second language as a member of Literacy Volunteers of America. Mrs. Rich and her husband helped abused dogs, particularly Chihuahuas, by including them in her family with lots of T.L.C. Helen was a life member of the National Education Association and the former Cochato Club for 27 years. She was a member of the Weymouth Garden Club and served as its treasurer for 4 years. Helen was widely read especially enjoying mysteries. Her favorite activities besides reading were walking, doing aerobics, swimming, entertaining, gardening and traveling. A private graveside service will be held at the East Monmouth Cemetery in Monmouth, ME. Donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Literacy Volunteers of America C/O Elaine Kline, Crane Library, 40 Washington St. Quincy, MA 02169.
