Inger-Carin Hawkins, 84 passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital. She was born in Bergen, Norway. After World War II she came to visit family in Portland, Maine, where she met and married George Everett Hawkins, of South Portland, in 1947. George passed away last year, in March 2007. They would have celebrated their sixtieth anniversary this past December. They lived in South Weymouth since 1949. Inger-Carin was the sister of the late John Helland of Bergen, Norway. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen-Carin and Roman Piaskoski of South Weymouth and her son and daughter-in-law Eric and Debbie Hawkins of Milton. She cherished her grandchildren; Nicholas Piaskoski and wife Thea, of Leicester, North Carolina, Katina Edwards and husband Brendon of Somerville, Jenny-Karin Piaskoski of Jamaica Plain and Julia, Keith and Erik Hawkins of Hingham. She was very proud to be the great grandmother of one-year old Madalyn Piaskoski of North Carolina. She is also survived by her nephew, Frode Helland of Alesund, Norway and many of her husband’s family from Maine. Inger-Carin was an active member of Sons of Norway, Norumbega Lodge in Newton for over thirty years and a very involved member of the Viking Club in Braintree. Her love for Norway, its culture and traditions was evident in everything she did and she instilled this love in her children and grandchildren. She will be buried with her husband in a private service at the National Cemetery in Bourne. A memorial service is being planed.
