Jean (Babcock) Cornell Baker passed away at the Quincy Medical Center on March 11, 2008 at the age of 79. Mrs. Baker is the wife of the late George W. Baker. She is survived by her daughter Susan Bernard and her husband Harry of Norwell, her cherished grandson, Robert Bernard of Norwell, her brother in law, Arnold Dunn of Middletown, RI, nieces Carolyn and Alan Shadeck of Warwick, RI, Janet and Brett Wood of Sydney, NY, Katie and James Paiva of West Greenwich, RI, 4 great nieces and 1 great nephew. She is also survived by a special cousin; Sharon Viola of Burlington, MA, her life long friend of Barbara Robertson of Quincy and her cat, Bertie. She was the daughter of the late William and Eva (Carver) Babcock and the sister of the late Ruth H. Dunn. Jean was born and educated in Quincy, attending Quincy High School. She was a resident of Quincy Point until 1992. She was an Auto Glass Manager for Settles Glass in Quincy for 32 years. A member of Bethany Congregational Church for 67 years, she was a former Deacon, member of the Amity Team and Bethany Churchwomen, former member of the music committee and Bell Choir. Mrs. Baker was a past volunteer at the Interfaith Social Service. Jean enjoyed quilting, playing her baby grand piano, classical music, gardening, knitting, her friends, family and her church. She had a great love for Quincy and Quincy Medical Center where she was born. Jean was known for her long and detailed stories; she truly was the family historian. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at the Bethany Congregational Church, 18 Spear St. Quincy on Saturday March 15 at 11 A.M. and the visiting hours at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Friday 4to8 P.M. Interment will be in Mount Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy.
