Wilma E. Flavin, 83, passed away on November 18 at South Shore Hospital. Born Wilma Edna Johnson, in Jersey City, NJ, she grew up in Gardner, MA. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1942. While there, she co-wrote the song that was then, and still is, the school’s Alma Mater. After completing Pediatric Nurses training at the Boston Floating Hospital, Wilma attended the Henry Heyward Memorial Hospital Nursing Program were she earned her degree as a registered nurse. While pursuing her career at the Rutland State Sanatorium she met her future husband Charles H. Flavin. Wilma and Charley moved to Weymouth in 1964, where she lovingly raised 4 children. She later went to work at her son’s business, Pembroke Cleaners and Tailors, for over 20 years. Wilma was involved in various aspects of the business, but mostly she preferred providing service to their customers and she enjoyed her daily interaction with them. Wilma is survived by her best friend and former husband, Charley Flavin, her daughter Jeanne Faiella and husband Ed of Plymouth, her daughter Barbara Anderson and husband Brian of South Weymouth, her son Steven Flavin and wife Teresa (McElaney) of Marshfield, her sister in law, Claire Flavin, as well as 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late William Flavin. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the Funeral at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Saturday, November 24, at 9 A.M. and the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church 261 Pleasant St. South Weymouth at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours will be at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home on Friday, November 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in South Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wilma’s memory to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451-1942.
