Peter Fontana

Peter J. Fontana Sr. passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022 at the age of 99. Peter was born, raised, and educated in South Boston and graduated from South Boston Public High School. During World War Two Peter enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Air Forces and served as an aircraft mechanic. He married his wife Rita in January 1945 and started a family. He continued his service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a Flight Engineer and as a civilian contractor at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Peter was a family man that gained satisfaction from a hard day’s work. He often worked an additional job to provide for his family. Peter was also socially active and was a member of the New Beginnings social group. He also enjoyed cars, cruising around in his convertibles, and enjoyed winters in Florida. Peter had a big heart, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and always making sure his family and friends were cared for.

Peter was predeceased by his two wives Rita Fontana and Janette Fontana and his significant other Margaret Bernabei . He was the devoted father of Georgette Lesnak and her husband Stephen of Rochester NY, Claudia Bond and her husband Robert of Raleigh NC, Rita Donahoe and her husband John of Rowley MA, Peter Fontana Jr. and his wife Janet of Wrentham MA and the late Denise Fontana. Peter was the cherished grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of 11.

Services for Peter will be announced at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers are requested for Hospice NVNA (Norwell Visiting Nurse Assoc.) and the "Hope For The Warriors" veterans charity (https://www.hopeforthewarriors.org/).
