Susan E. Burkard

Susan E. Burkard of Weymouth passed away after a brief illness on April 23, 2022, at the age of 67. Susan was born, raised, and educated in Weymouth, graduating with the Weymouth South High class of 1972, shortly after which she met her future husband, Michael. After graduation, Susan attended Bridgewater State College for some time before entering the workforce at South Weymouth Savings Bank. She held a job as an office manager for L.T. Pompeo. Later, She worked at Woodward School for Girls, the Hingham Public Schools and ended her working career with the Weymouth Public Schools for nearly 20 years as an educator.

Susan was a woman who enjoyed working with her hands. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially sewing, so much so that she was given the nickname “Sewing Sue” from the students in her after school program. She was a tremendous cook, loved shopping and adored her cats and dog, Rocky. When not working in the home or completing craft projects, Susan could be found pulling the slot lever at a casino or on a trip with her family. She enjoyed many trips throughout her life, most notably Canada, Spain, skiing trips and many vacations to Disney. Susan was a lifelong member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Weymouth. Above all else, she was a family woman who cherished every moment she spent with close family and friends.

Susan was the daughter of the late Louis and Agnes Pompeo. She was the beloved wife of 46 years to Michael Burkard of Weymouth. She was the loving mother of Christopher Burkard of Weymouth. She also leaves behind her nephew Matthew Pompeo and his wife Jen of Weymouth, her cousin Joanne Rugg of Weymouth and many other family and friends. Susan was predeceased by her brother Christopher Pompeo and her nephew Martin Pompeo.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Susan on Wednesday April 27, 2022, from 4 to 8pm in the evening at the CC Shepherd Funeral Home in Weymouth. A funeral service will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Church (83 Sea St. N. Weymouth) on Thursday April 28, 2022, at 10:30am in the morning. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
