Richard Parker (“Dick”) Pillsbury, formerly of Weymouth passed away on December 11, 2021, in Hingham at the age of 86. Dick Grew up in South Weymouth, graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and served honorably in the National Guard. He worked for over forty years in the insurance industry. Before retiring to the Linden Ponds community, he and Eleanor lived next door to Eleanor’s sisters’ family Mabel and Dick Mell, and the two families became life-long friends. Dick and Eleanor enjoyed many happy times with Eleanor’s niece, Sandra O’Neill, and Sandra’s husband Jim, who remained steadfast, loving friends until the very end. Dick loved all the members of Eleanor’s extended family and spent many happy hours in their company. In recent years, Dick and Eleanor enjoyed the company and assistance provided by caregivers Mara, Amy, Paula and especially Cassie, whose infectious enthusiasm livened their days.
Dick loved traveling and history, and in his lifetime visited many different countries, a pastime that continued after he and Eleanor married. Together, they visited Switzerland and England and spent a month in the Caribbean each winter. Dick was a voracious reader, and kept his two kindles well-stocked, reading two or three books at a time. He loved music and watching ball games. He had a great sense of humor and was a devoted husband, a wonderful son, and a loving uncle to his niece and nephew and their families. His annual rendition of Good King Wenceslas at holiday gatherings was a cherished tradition that will be sorely missed by all, as will he, our dearly beloved son, husband, uncle, and friend.
Dick is predeceased by his parents, Edwin Parker Pillsbury and Mildred Sara Pillsbury and his brother, Robert Warren Pillsbury. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Eleanor (Blenis) Pillsbury, sister-in-law, Luci S. Gardner, his nephew, Steven Parker Pillsbury and his wife Kimberly Pillsbury and their children Samantha and Nicholas, and his niece Lauren Nigro and her children Carolyn, Ernest Robert, and Eugene Anthony Nigro.
Services for Richard are in the care of the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home Weymouth, MA. Details for funeral services will be announced at a later date.
