Williamina 'Billie' Greene

Williamina “Billie” Greene aka “Grannie Greene", age 96, formerly of Abington, passed away peacefully Sept. 6th. Born in Boston, Billie worked for most of her life at the YMCA, first in Dorchester where she met her husband John and then in Brockton, where her ceaseless energy was well-known. In the Fitness Department she created events, took EKGs, and kept everything humming. Within her time at the Y, its Fitness Department became nationally renowned.

But being a Mom came first. Billie enthusiastically supported all her children’s interests, attending every game or show. Hers and John’s involvement only grew when their grandchildren came along! Her love and support was also extended to children of relatives, friends and neighbors.

Billie and John were also very active in the community of the Holy Nativity Church for many years, cultivating many deep and lasting relationships there.

Billie looked forward to once again seeing her parents, William and Lizzie Martin, as well as her siblings: Jeannie, Edward, Bella, Rita, and Betty. She is survived by her loving children Linda Greene and husband Tom Connor of CA and John Greene and wife Alynne of Randolph; her grandkids Jenna and John; and many loving nieces and nephews, some related by blood, some by love.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the funeral service for Billie on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11am at the Holy Nativity Church, 8 Nevin Rd. S. Weymouth, MA 02190. Because of Covid restrictions, we request that all attendees wear masks and maintain social distancing for the safety of others. There will be a reception following the service.

Interment will be private at a later date in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
